In an omnichannel environment where order flows are accelerating and becoming more complex, operational data is becoming an essential lever for effectively managing activities. Tracking order volumes, understanding preparation times, and identifying warehouse or store bottlenecks: these are all needs that require precise, reliable, and structured access to data. Business Intelligence (BI) tools enable visualisation of some of this information, but they often rely on standard dashboards that may not always meet specific business needs or local use cases.
This is why access to raw data has become a strategic issue. It allows going beyond preconfigured indicators, cross-referencing sources (OMS, ERP, CRM...), building custom analyses, and anticipating rather than just observing. For BI teams as well as operational teams in stores or logistics, having this raw, exploitable, and contextualised data is a key performance factor.
It is with this logic in mind that we designed the Data BI Extract module at Planet Unified Commerce. It addresses a very concrete need: to enable our clients to easily leverage their Order Management System (OMS) data in their BI tools. The goal is simple: to make data accessible, reliable, and ready for analysis without complex development.
Every day, Data BI Extract automatically generates two types of exports. On one hand, operational data, which covers shipped, canceled, or picked-up orders, as well as assignments and parcels. On the other hand, reference data, such as warehouses, carriers, or sales channels. These exports are configurable to project needs and can be integrated with tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or other analysis systems.
One of the major benefits of Data BI Extract is its ability to adapt to various contexts. It allows teams to build their own analyses, respond to specific needs (e.g., tracking warehouse performance, analysing preparation times in stores, or comparing delivery methods), and evolve their indicators over time without relying on a fixed model.
We built this module in close collaboration with our clients. Their feedback allowed us to adjust the exported data, remove irrelevant items, and make it more coherent. This iterative work has been invaluable in achieving a simple, robust solution that is well-suited for real-world use. And this is just the beginning. The Data BI Extract module will continue to evolve. We plan to soon integrate other data sources beyond the OMS. For example, basket data from online or in-store customer journeys can be extracted and analysed in the same way. This will further enrich the analyses and provide a better understanding of purchasing behaviours.
Data BI Extract is not just a data export tool. It is a strategic lever to transform operational data into a competitive advantage. By centralising reliable information, making it accessible and exploitable, it enables teams to make faster, more accurate decisions that are better aligned with on-the-ground realities. With Data BI Extract, data becomes a driver of action, not just a historical record.
