Planet brings Tax Free shopping to Shopify POS across almost 30 countries

Planet has launched a new app that brings Tax Free shopping into Shopify POS across almost 30 countries in Europe, Asia and the UAE. It gives retailers a simpler way to serve international shoppers, making VAT refunds easier at checkout and helping turn overseas visits into greater sales.

The app will be particularly valuable to retailers in city centres, luxury districts and other destinations popular with international visitors. By removing unnecessary steps from the Tax Free process, it helps store teams keep checkout moving, gives shoppers a better experience and reduces the risk of losing a sale.

“International shoppers are an important source of growth for retailers in city centres, luxury districts and major tourist destinations,” said Colin Close, Chief Commercial Officer at Planet. “Bringing Tax Free shopping into Shopify POS makes it easier for store teams to serve those customers at checkout. For retailers, that means a better chance of completing the sale, increasing basket size and benefiting from overseas demand.”

Tax Free shopping through Shopify POS

The Planet app works within Shopify POS, allowing store teams to create digital VAT refund forms on the device they already use. It includes:

• Automatic checks at checkout to identify international shoppers who qualify for Tax Free shopping.
• Digital VAT refund forms that reuse securely stored card details, so staff do not need to enter the same information again.
• A secure mobile service that lets shoppers follow their refund by QR code, email or text message.
• A choice of refund options, including Fast Refund within 72 hours and Real-Time Refund in less than a minute.

Planet has more than 35 years of experience in Tax Free shopping and payments, giving retailers access to a refund service used by international shoppers around the world.

A growing opportunity for retailers

Europe, Asia Pacific and the Middle East welcomed more than 1.2 billion international tourist arrivals in 2025. For retailers in the destinations they visit, that represents a sizeable pool of potential customers—and a clear reason to make Tax Free shopping as simple as possible.
