Planet, a global provider of payments and software for retail and hospitality, is making it even easier for people in Switzerland to pay online or in store by expanding its merchant offering to support TWINT, the country’s most widely used mobile payment method.
For merchants, that means a simpler way to offer TWINT across both online and in-store sales through one provider, while giving customers a payment method they already know and use widely.
TWINT has more than 6 million users in Switzerland and processed 901 million transactions in 2025.
The expansion builds on the broader relationship between Planet and TWINT, with support from PPRO, a leading local payments platform that connects Planet to TWINT. Through the partnership, local payment choice can be brought more easily into the services merchants and consumers use across retail and hospitality.
In retail, that sits alongside Planet’s Tax Free services, order management and point-of-sale tools. In hospitality, it helps connect payments more closely with property management and booking systems.
Adding TWINT online will also strengthen Planet’s offering for parking and mobility businesses where the payment method is already widely used.
Planet already has a strong presence in Switzerland through Datatrans, its ecommerce payments platform; its Tax Free and terminal payments business; and Rebag, its hospitality software business. Merchants are supported by Planet’s local-language teams based in Zurich.
Aleksander Leicht, Senior Vice President, General Manager Ecommerce and Mobility Payments, Planet, says: “Adding TWINT across our Swiss offering, online and in person, is an important step for Planet in a market where local payment choice matters. It builds on the position we already have in Switzerland through Datatrans and Rebag, and helps us support retailers, hoteliers, restaurateurs and mobility operators with payments and software that reflect how Swiss consumers want to pay.”
Markus Kilb, Chief Executive Officer at TWINT, says: “TWINT has become an integral part of everyday payments for millions of people in Switzerland, whether in-store or online. Expanding our collaboration with strong partners like Planet is key to further broadening acceptance across all channels. By enabling merchants to integrate TWINT seamlessly into their existing payment setup, we are making it even easier for businesses to meet customer expectations and offer a convenient, secure, and locally preferred payment experience.”
Eelco Dettingmeijer, Chief Commercial Officer at PPRO, says: "Our collaboration with Planet is a great example of how PPRO’s local payments infrastructure underpins global commerce. By bridging the connection between Planet and TWINT, we are removing the friction of integrating local payment methods, enabling Swiss merchants to seamlessly offer the country’s most popular mobile payment method."
